London Stories – Dr Salter’s Daydream

In this London Stories walk, I explore a powerful and moving corner of Bermondsey, revealing the poignant story behind a curious public memorial, Dr Salter’s Daydream on the River Thames.

Walking east from Tower Bridge alongside London’s historic docks and warehouses, this film tells the story of Dr Alfred Salter, his wife Ada, and their daughter Joyce. The Salter’s were pioneers of social reform who dedicated their lives to improving access to healthcare, housing, education and public space in the East End of London, decades before the NHS.

This is a reflective walk through London history, social justice, and forgotten lives, set among riverside streets, hidden parks, and for me one of the city’s most poignant memorials.
