London Photography – Abstract, Ministry of Defence Building

Slightly abstract photograph from the corner of the Ministry of Defence Building, looking down towards Whitehall and Horseguards. The building when completed in 1959 was described by architectural historian Nikolaus Pevsner as a ‘monument of tiredness’.

I like the elements in the frame, the street lamp framed either side by the security cameras and one of the two statues Earth and Water. I had been researching Queen Mary’s steps, the old riverside entrance to the palaces which once stood here; the sun was out and I’d eaten a chunky cheese sandwich, good times.
