London Photography – Buckingham Palace

I was out to get some interesting photographs of the Palace the other day when the sun was bright and the air clear. Its hard not to get a nice photograph of the building so pretty soon I had gathered the shots I needed. I would have wandered off towards St James in search of a coffee, but lingered a little while and started to observe and record the visitors around me. I’m glad that I did.

I’m working on a few things at the moment, projects and getting stuff finished before the holidays. I have been able to find some time to start researching the history of the monarchy and its many palaces and residences in London. One of the key addresses is obviously Buckingham Palace, the most famous of all, and theres some fascinating stories about this place and the people who have lived or visited this building over the years. Standing in front of the beautiful gates, milling around amongst the crowds of curious visitors this building attracts daily, you are reminded of a story of tradition and service, one you are taught from an early age.

For me, I’m always aware of our complicated history, the monarchy especially; with all its achievements as well as its failings. Recently, having spent a considerable amount of time researching the area, its astonishing the numbers of people from around the world, who are really intrigued by our Royal family and every day crowd about the palace and stroll leisurely through the parks. They are and will remain a great curiosity and interest to many people.

For a fan of history you cant help but be fascinated by these curious individuals thrust into the roles of King’s or Queen’s. And our past, our rich ancestry, is unavoidably interwoven. We’re stuck with them and they’re stuck with us. All this has spanned generation after generation and I always can’t help but think of all the people who have set eyes on this palace since Queen Victoria moved in back in 1837.
