London Photography – The lady Waterloo Station

It was a grey old winter afternoon and I’d been walking along Southbank with the intention of finding something interesting to photograph, but the light wasn’t great and I hadn’t been happy with much of what I’d taken. It was getting increasingly cold and dark, so resigned to it not being a good ‘un, I pointed my way towards Waterloo Station and a tube home. I loitered for a moment at the tunnel where the railway runs above Sutton Walk. This was that point in time where you reach for the lense cap, at that stage its over for the day. For some reason I felt something could happen here and as I looked up I saw the young woman searching for a lighter in her jacket pocket. If everything else is dark and gloomy, the lighter will for a few magic moments illuminate the ladies face and could lead to an interesting photograph. She was in a rush, didn’t look up as she came towards me, and sure enough the naked flame lit her face ever so softly and I fired off a few hopeful frames. I was pleased that I did.
